How remove tape glue from a GAE?

Hi everyone, I came across some 1/10 GAEs that someone scotch taped to cardboard 2x2s. :36_1_30: Some of the tape glue is stuck to the coins. :thumpdown Anyone have some practical methods of removing this glue without an adverse effect to the coins. TIA

Two good suggestions so far.

First soak them in acetone (or nail polish remover), then rinse in hot, soapy water. RESIST the temptation to use a scrub brush. Just let the acetone do its work. Some mild finger pressure may help to loosen some stubborn glue after soaking, but don't use anything else. I once used a soft cloth on a roll of Silver Prospectors that someone had taped together to assist in wiping away the softened glue and I scratched the face of everyone of them.

It's gold. Use pretty much anything you want, it won't touch the metal

I hate to divulge too many of my secrets  but WD-40 is among the best solutions for removing tape/sticky residue, ever, from anything. For a gold coin, you can pretty much use anything from water to gasoline.

Paper towel, some rubbing alcohol.
When in doubt, that nasty ass commercial toothpaste will remove almost anything from almost anything without damamging the anything too badly , at least initially.
People put all kinds of poison and shit in their mouth all the time and rely on TP to strip it away yet leave the enamel on their teeth ( at least initially).
Have found Colgate to be especially stripperful, takes Sharpie marker off wood finish without completely bleaching the finish.
On my teethies?
No, thank you.
But the stuff is a miracle of sorts.

Acetone, then rinse with water. If that does not work you could tray something more aggressive like MEK.

Simple Green cleaner. Spray on, rub gently with finger; wait for a few minutes for it to dissolve the adhesive, then lightly rub with finger again and it should come off.

If none of the above works, wash the coins with some aqua regia, that will take care of your gold real quick! :ok:

Try sticking/removing another piece of tape to/from the residue a few times, it will usually transfer to the tape without problems. Use the same kind of tape, or one that is stickier - masking tape for example.

Failing that, a good stiff wire brush should do it. :sarcasm:J/K!

in a pinch, recycled mouthwash (26.9 % alcohol, 1% saliva) will loosen up that tape residue.
